Gate designs fall under 3 different physical operational designs. The first and most common is a leaf gate where the gate (leaf) opens towards or away from you. The second is a sliding gate where the gate slides to the left or the right. The third gate style is a barrier gate which has more of an arm versus a gate and it lifts up and down. Physical security, esthetics and reliability are all present in our gate and barrier systems. We have several standard designs to choose from or you can even add a bit of your own flare.
Budget Gates
The least expensive style of gate is a single leaf gate mounted on wood or steel posts. Our budget leaf gate is made up of lighter steel than our custom gate but it is still galvanized. The 10' posts are installed in holes 4' deep and can be filled with concrete. Usually this style of gate is locked up with a pad lock and chain. Budget gates range from $1500.00 to $3000.00 installed.
Custom Gates
Peerless takes great pride in making our custom gates. These gates are made out of thick wall square or round tube steel and have grease fittings on the custom hinges. The gates can be mounted on 6'' by 8'' steel posts or mounted to stone faced concrete piers. All of our custom gates are mounted in 24" by 24" by 4'6" deep concrete forms and are fully adjustable. Locking is accomplished by padlocks and/or magnetic locks (no chain is required).
Locking Systems
There are several different approaches to locking gates. The most common is a chain and padlock. From a security point of view, this is the weakest approach unless the chain is hardened and the padlock can not be cut or compromised easily. Another approach to locking gates is by means of an electronic magnetic lock which will provide for 1500 lb to 2000 lb holding force. Most of our customers prefer our "pin & slot" locking system where, when the gate is closed, a fixed pin on the gate slides through a fixed slot on the post assembly and a padlock goes through the pin which prevents the gate from opening.
Gate Finishes
The 3 finishes we offer on our gates are (1) galvanized (2) powder coated (3) painted. The type of finish used on gates dictates the amount of maintenance required to keep them looking good. Painted finishes offer various colors to choose from but are the least durable. Powder coating offers color choices and is far more durable than a painted finish. The most durable finish we offer is galvanizing which treats the outside and inside of metal tubing.
Barrier Systems
Barrier systems are commonly used for pay parking lots, hospital parking and apartment building parking. This system consists of a single post which has a motor powered arm extending out across the access driveway. By design they are meant for traffic control rather than security. Several automation options are available to control the barrier arm (gate).
Fixed Posts
The easiest way to secure a gate post is by digging or drilling a 4 foot deep by 12 inch wide hole, insert the post and fill the hole back in with dirt or concrete. This method is usually fine in gate systems which do not require tight tolerances and which will be locked by chains and padlocks. Heavy gates such as our custom gates are not installed on posts installed in this fashion as they will likely sag over time.
Adjustable Posts
Adjustable posts are typically installed on a cradle which is in a 4 foot deep by 24 inch by 24 inch wide concrete form. We recommend adjustable posts for all our custom gates and for gates installed in areas where there is risk of movement of posts due to traffic and or soil conditions.
Posts Lights
Many of our gate systems will accommodate lighting. A simple yet effective set up is to have lights installed on the posts connected to a motion sensor. This aids the user in their access and is a deterrent to burglars.
Automation
All of our gate systems can be automated to meet the specific requirements for each installation. The most common automation is, powered openers triggered by a keypad or key fob. In addition to the powered opening and closing of gates, automation can also provide for the presence sensing of vehicles and/or people, power locking, communications and video.
Gate Operators
Peerless uses FAAC hydraulic operators to power gates. They are proven and provide many years of reliable service in all weather conditions and temperatures.
